What makes FREIRAD – Freies Radio Innsbruck so special?

You are FREIRAD, FREIRAD is you. People like you create our programme as volunteer radio hosts. According to the principle: do not (just) listen but make yourself heard. About topics that are important: environment, politics, art, culture, women*, music, entertainment, social issues, developments in society, technology, health, and many more. No matter in which language. Critical and open. Sociopolitical and committed. Informative and diverse. Universal and niche friendly. Local and international. Monolingual and multilingual. 24 hours, 7 days a week. This way, our volunteer editors make use of the opportunity for freedom of expression. In addition, they bring diversity of opinion to the radio. This makes FREIRAD unique in Tyrol.

Everyone can speak and can be heard publicly on FREIRAD! In any language!

Invited are therefore people who otherwise receive little media coverage and who find little space in the media. Everyone can participate and can create radio content on FREIRAD. However, they must comply with the principles and rules of FREIRAD and the Austrian laws. They are not allowed to play any commercials in their shows, they are not allowed to be racist or discriminating, and they have to research content carefully.

At FREIRAD, you’ll learn everything you need in order to create your own radio show. You don’t have to be a trained journalist and you don’t have to have any prior knowledge. German is not necessary either. FREIRAD helps you to realise your idea for a radio show, offers workshops and technical equipment. FREIRAD is a community radio station: commercial-free, non-profit, full of ideals!

FREIRAD is one of 14 community radio stations in Austria. Community radios do not want to make a profit and therefore do not play any commercials. They are non-profit and offer independent and self-determined programmes as an alternative to the mainstream radio. They are independent of political parties and economic interests. Therefore, they enable every member of our society to create their own radio show.

Be part of a community!

At FREIRAD, you become part of a diverse community that is organised as an association. As a radio host, you become a member of the association and pay a fee of € 50 once a year. If you don’t have much money, you pay € 25 once a year. If you have no money or a Kulturpass you pay nothing.

• You can use recording equipment and the studio for free
• You receive the latest information about FREIRAD
• You pay less for FREIRAD workshops
• You will be invited once a year to the FREIRAD general assembly and can participate in the discussions
